Letter to our Voters:

Dear Resident,

I am seeking re-election for the position of Mayor. We need to keep the momentum that we have going to continue to build our strong vibrant community. We have finally been able to have the population sign changed on the highway that seemed stuck at 6500 for decades. We have new and expanded businesses and continue to look for new housing developments to support the business and professional services growth.

Part of my role as Mayor is making sure that I am in close contact with residents, business operators and service providers, seeking to understand their concerns and working to resolve them. I have worked hard for many years to build networks and connections both within and outside of Parry Sound. Our diversity and growth will provide increasing opportunity for many.

In August of this year, I finished another term as President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). As AMO President I represented Parry Sound and the other 443 municipalities in Ontario. It has allowed me to be at the table with the provincial government ministries to help advocate for better policies and legislation that support municipalities. I have built a network of relationships that will only help to move our town ahead and has brought significant attention to Parry Sound from across Ontario and Canada. As I transition into the role of Past President of AMO, and chairing AMO’s Housing Task Force, I am still at the table in Queens Park working for the betterment of Ontario’s municipalities of which for me, Parry Sound is at the forefront.

COVID-19 affected the lives of many people and our outlook on business and how we relate to each other. Through this period of time, I worked to find the avenues so people were educated, updated and the ways and means of trying to keep people safe while vaccines were being developed. One of my successes as President of AMO was advocating for funding from the Provincial and Federal Governments. We were successful in acquiring $4 Billion from both upper levels of government for municipalities and businesses in Ontario. Of this the Town received $508,557, the Land Ambulance received $251,816 and the District Social Services received $4,413,612.

This next 4-year term of council will be busy and we need to hit the ground running. There is much on the horizon with new businesses, housing development and the new Recreation/Pool Complex. Within the first 100 days we need to bring the new councillors up to speed and select committee members for various committees. We have to develop a 2023 budget. Our strategic plan needs to be updated and to do this we need public participation that addresses housing, business development, tourism, the environment and investigating public transit. I have the experience and determination to get the most out of the next 4 years of council and I want to work with you on all of this.

There is always much to consider in a municipal election. We need to keep our community growing and well connected so that we can provide the best possible future for the people of Parry Sound. I look forward to your support on October 24th. Sincerely,
